Obituary: Ronald Melvin Smith

Sept. 21, 1936 – March 9. 2024

Ronald Melvin Smith, age 87 of the Town of Liberty Grove, passed away on Saturday, March 9. 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1936, to the late Theodore and Marguerite (Moeller) Smith in Chicago.

Ronald graduated from Senn High School. After high school, he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Ronald was united in marriage to Nancy Anne Schultz on May 28, 1960, at St. Priscilla Catholic Church in Chicago.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sister Bay and also attended Stella Maris Catholic Parish-Sister Bay Site.

Ronald enjoyed cross-country skiing, swimming, playing hardball, nature walks, and classical music. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially the field trips with his grandchildren.  He will be known for warming everyone with his personality and his positive attitude in good times and in hard times.

Ronald is survived by his wife Nancy; his children, Eric (Patrice Champeau) Smith, Kurt (Caroline) Smith, and Trina (Tom) Caldecott; grandchildren Erika Smith, Brandon Smith, Ashley (Charles) Thurber, Kara (Sam) Forkert, Bria Caldecott, Rylan Caldecott, Kai Smith, and Ruby Smith; and great grandchildren Gilligan Thurber, Roger Thurber, and Mack Forkert. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald Smith.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Ronald will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11 am at Stella Maris Catholic Parish – Sister Bay site, (2410 S. Bay Shore Dr., Sister Bay), with Fr. Thomas Farrell officiating. Inurnment will take place in St. Rosalia Catholic Cemetery in Sister Bay. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the American Legion Post 527. Visitation will be held at church from 9:30 am until the time of service.
