Obituary: Sandy M. (LeClair) Sander

November 1, 1951 ~ March 13, 2023

Sandy M. (LeClair) Sander, Spring Hill, FL, died unexpectedly March 13, 2023 at Oakhill Hospital, Spring Hill, where she has resided for the last 25 years.

She was born November 1, 1951, in Sturgeon Bay to Richard ‘Pants’ and Helen (Daskare) LeClair and raised in Jacksonport, Wisconsin. On April 2, 1977, she married Richard Sander at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jacksonport.

In the early 1970s she worked at Doerr Electric, and in her later years she went back to school and earned her associate degree in nursing, which she was very proud of. She worked as an RN at Brooksville Hospital for many years and also did some home health care. Her career allowed her compassion, kindness and sense of humor to be part of her everyday life. She retired in 2016.

Spending time with family was her greatest joy and although she enjoyed crossword puzzles, her passion was crocheting. She loved to surprise family and friends with baby blankets, baptismal gowns, wedding quilts and many other crocheted items. Her thoughtfulness and creativity came through with every crochet of her hook as she spent many hours making beautiful things for those she loved.

Sandy loved to travel and explore the world with her husband, Rich. She was an avid runner in her early years, loved the water, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Spoiling her great-grandchildren was her most recent pastime since her retirement. Her grandchildren loved to bake with her, especially when she made her homemade hot fudge sauce.

She is survived and missed by her husband; three stepchildren, Kim Christensen, Kelly (Chad) Lampson and Jason Sander; four grandchildren, Jessica (Jeromy) Turner, Caitlin Christensen, Jacob (Linda) Estes, Sara (Trevor) Howell; 4 great-grandchildren, Evelynn Turner, Reageyn Turner, Mia Quintana and Noah Quintana. She is also survived by siblings and twin sister, Sue LeClair, Jeanne (Paul) Wiesner, Mary (Bill Schuster) Kaye, Paul (Arba) LeClair, Melissa (Carl) von Estorff, Peter (Becky) LeClair, Ann (Mark) Ash, sister-in-law, Wendy Gerndt; nieces and nephews, Nicole Thompson and Paul (Jen) Wiesner; Cambria (Mark) Mueller, Courtney (Dan) Ohme, and Cathy Kaye; Madeline (fiancé, Paul) LeClair and Lexie LeClair; Erna and Lilly von Estorff; Megan (Kyle) Mezera, Natalie LeClair, and Richard LeClair; Nicolas Ash and Sophie Ash; and many great nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her dear friends, Kathy Frommer and Susan Webster.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Gwen and Ralph Borgia; her brother, Ricky LeClair; and brother-in-law, Mike Kaye.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date in Door County.

I’m not afraid of death. I look forward to the next journey. – Sandy Sander
