Obituary: Toben (Toby) Ernest Schlick

August 5, 1944 –  October 21, 2020

Toby died very peacefully at Anna’s House Wednesday October 21. He was born to Ernest Schlick and (Elaine Wecker) Schlick in Yankton SD August 5, 1944 and graduated from Bonduel High School.


He attended classes at UWGB and graduated fro UW-Madison in 1967 with a degree in environmental biology. He was then accepted into the Peace Corps. Shortly after, he also received an invitation from Uncle Sam to spend the next few years in the DMZ as a teletype specialist in Korea.


His next adventure began with Doug Butchard whom he met scuba diving – this led to Thumb Fun and ultimately The Haunted House! Toby helped build an later appeared as a “spook” there, scaring many people.


One day a girlfriend mentioned to him that she had never flown a kite. That led to reading and learning everything he could about the subject and the beginning of  “The Fish Creek Kite Company” until he retired in 2010.


Toby is survived by his wife Valerie Murre Schlick and two step-sons Morgan Murre and Adrian Murre.
