Olde Ellison Bay Days Introduces Pie Contest

Pies and contests are as American as, well, pie. The Ellison Bay Service Club decided it was time to hosts its first Annual Pie Baking Contest for Olde Ellison Bay Days on June 26. Proceeds from the event will fund club projects.

Participants are asked to bake two identical fruit pies only, with a single or double crust. The pies must be delivered to the Ellison Bay Women’s Club building at the park Friday, June 25 between 12 – 2 pm for judging.

The judges will be basing their decision on appearance, taste, fruit-filling quality, pastry quality and originality. Winners will be announced at 5 pm on Friday.

Judges for the contest include: Mary Mead, Shoreline Restaurant; Kris Seaquist, Seaquist’s Farm Market; Dave Eliot, Peninsula Pulse; Jenie Tveten, Bea’s Ho-Made; and David Lea, Sweetie Pies.

The 1st place winner will receive a handmade stoneware pie plate from Gills Rock Stoneware, the 2nd place winner will receive a cooking class from Savory Spoon, and the 3rd place winner will receive a gift from Bea’s Ho-Made Products.

The registration deadline is June 21. Forms are available at Sweetie Pies in Fish Creek, The Cook Book in Sister Bay, and The Savory Spoon and Newport House Gallery in Ellison Bay. Pie tins will be handed out upon registration. For more information call 920.854.2621.
