Organ & Violin Concert at Shepherd of the Bay

Organist Naomi Rowley and violinist Janet Bond Sutter are featured in a concert at Ellison Bay’s Shepherd of the Bay Church on Sunday, October 11 at 4 pm. Works for solo organ as well as combined violin and organ pieces will feature music of well known masters such as Telemann, Saint-Saëns, and Paul Manz. The concert will also introduce newer works by Mexican composer Ramón Noble and Fela Sowande of Nigeria.

Rowley, principal organist at Shepherd of the Bay, has pursued an active career as a church musician, recitalist, and teacher for more than 35 years. She is a winner of Chicago’s Gruenstein Organ Competition. Through appearances as demonstration recitalist at national conventions of the Organ Historical Society and public concerts, Rowley’s organ music has become a hallmark of her performing. Prior to her tenure at Shepherd of the Bay, Rowley was the principal organist for several years at First United Methodist Church in Appleton.

Sutter is also no stranger to Door County, where she has played in the Peninsula Music Festival orchestra for 29 years. A resident of Appleton, Janet continues to perform with the Fox Valley Symphony (where she was concertmaster for 18 seasons), the Green Bay Symphony, and the Oshkosh Symphony. Trained at Indiana University’s School of Music, she has made her career in orchestras ranging from New York to Texas. She also keeps a busy teaching schedule with the Lawrence Academy of Music.

A free will offering will be collected to support special musical events at the church, and a reception will also follow the concert. For more information, call 920.854.2988.
