Paper Workshops at Shepherds’ Market

The Center for Handmade Paper will be part of Door County Shepherds’ Market at Woodwalk Gallery near Egg Harbor on May 18 and 19. The Door County Shepherds’ Market is northeast Wisconsin’s oldest fiber event and sale. The market is held to promote products from locally raised sheep, goats, alpacas and llamas, and to educate the public about the animals, the fibers they produce and the traditional handcrafts and fiber arts that utilize these locally grown fibers. This year marks the 19th Annual Fiber and Art-To-Wear Sale, featuring fleeces, yarns, roving, unique knit, woven and felted products and wearable art, spinning and weaving equipment, fair trade baskets, and other related fiber accessories from local artists.

New this year, Kirsten Christianson of the Center for Handmade Paper will offer a papermaking class during the market. Students will learn the basics of making paper along with embedding Door County’s native dried and pressed flowers and plants.

The cost is $15, plus $5 for materials. Classes will be held from 10:30 am – 12 pm, 12:30 – 2 pm and 2:30 – 4 pm.

New vendors for this year are Lynn Schuster, Maralyn Fowler, Debbie Lynne Skubal, and Rick Harabes; Kimz Galley Restaurant of Sturgeon Bay will offer treats and lunches throughout the event.
