Pet Tip: Have A Bored Dog?

compiled by the Wisconsin Humane Society Door County Campus

In response to COVID-19, The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) Door County Campus has temporarily suspended adoption services, and all adoptable animals have been moved to the Green Bay and Milwaukee campuses. To learn about WHS’s response to COVID-19, visit wihumane.org/coronavirus. Until adoption services resume, WHS will provide tips to help pets stay healthy and happy.

We enrich our own lives every day, and our pets deserve the same! They crave intellectual and physical challenges, and they depend on us to provide new experiences and activities. One of the best solutions to a bored dog is a treat-dispensing toy, which allows dogs to use their brain as well as their brawn.

Dogs are scavengers by nature, so puzzle toys are a great way to give them mental exercise. A few of our favorites are Kongs, Kong Wobblers and Tug-a-Jug. For a low-cost enrichment toy, try filling a toilet-paper tube with treats and folding up the ends. Visit wihumane.org/behavior/ask-the-experts/dogs/enrich-the-mind-treatdispensing-toys to learn more about each toy, and purchase them online from the Wisconsin Humane Society’s retail shop. All store proceeds benefit the animals!
