Photos From Route 66 on Display at Glas

Kasey J. Hembel’s photography show, “Fragments: 100 Signs and Scraps Along Route 66,” will be on display at Glas Coffeehouse in Sturgeon Bay through the month of October.

Hembel, a graduate of Southern Door High School and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, took a month-long journey down Route 66 this spring. The photographs from her trip have been transformed into a book, as well as an exhibit that contains 80 black and white 5” x 7” of old neon signs along the Mother Road arranged in a grid format and hung as a body of work. To accompany this, there are also three large (21”x37”) color prints of neon signs lit at twilight.

Hembel’s book, also titled Fragments: 100 Signs and Scraps Along Route 66 is 108 pages long, hardcover, 8.5” x 5.5” with a full introduction explaining the work, and 100 black and white signs from Route 66 titled and with locations below. It is selling for $45.
