Poetry and Politics are Focus of Write On Workshop

On May 17, 1-3pm, Ed Werstein will share his knowledge of writing poetry in “Writing to the News,” a special workshop offered by Write On, Door County at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The program is free, but donations are accepted.

“Writing to the News” uses current headlines and quotes to serve as poetic prompts to inspire participants to create their own social justice poems or poems of protest. Poetry, Werstein said, can “ease our frustration and at the same time be an effective tool to get others to think about our points without feeling beaten over the head about it.”

Werstein has been an advocate for labor rights, peace and social justice most of his adult life. He was worked in manufacturing, union activity, and nonprofit work. Since 2008, he has been working steadily on his poetry and has published poems in a variety of journals as well as two chapbooks.

To reserve a spot in the workshop, email [email protected] or call 920.868.1457. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County is located at 10341 Hwy 42, Ephraim.
