Poetry Lab on April 5

Celebrate National Poetry Month by creating your own poem at Art/Speaks, a writing lab in which participants will compose a poetic work in response to a visual-art piece. Write On, Door County (writeondoorcounty.org) will present this on-going, free program on April 5, 11 am – 12 pm, at the Margaret Lockwood Gallery, 7 S. 2nd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay, and poet Francha Barnard will lead it.

Writing in response to art – called ekphrastic writing – is a centuries-old literary tradition. Although most ekphrastic writing is poetry, many prose pieces also are considered part of the genre. Participants will learn a little about the form’s history and will be encouraged to write about a work on display in the gallery.
