Public Invited to Door County Art League Meeting

Monday, April 27, beginning at 7 pm, Door County Art League members will get together and hold a critique, which Hermke Timm will lead. Members are encouraged to bring a piece of artwork in progress and participate. Guests are welcome to attend.

Timm, whose diverse media include engraving, watercolor, drawing, and tempera, was born in Berlin, Germany. He completed his apprenticeship in engraving in 1958 and earned his Degree in Master of Art and Engraving in 1964. He then moved to Chicago and continued his education at the Art Institute there. Since 1994, he has worked in his studio on Whitefish Bay in Door County.

To facilitate the evening’s critique, Timm plans to separate participants into a few different groups. The groups will then assess each others work, and one work from each group will be chosen for further review by Timm, with input from all those present.

Before the critique, Door County Art League Past President Jeanne Whildin will be recognized as Volunteer of the Year. She is now on the Board in the position of Ex Officio. During her tenure as President, she succeeded in growing the membership of the league and promoting the league’s programs throughout the county.

When asked what stimulates her and gives her ideas Whildin stated, “Living in Door County has been a truly creative experience. Looking at the lake and the bay, the trees, and the people inspires the need to catch them all on paper and in their three-dimensional glory.”

In addition, the Gallery of the Door County Art League is open seasonally, mid-May through mid-October, in the Top of the Hill Shops at the north end of Fish Creek. The cooperative gallery features work by DCAL members in a wide variety of media.
