Raise A Natural-Resources Voice Through Conservation Congress

The annual spring Conservation Congress advisory meetings allow all citizens to vote on questions involving Wisconsin’s natural resources – and it’s not just for those who hunt and fish, as Tim Eisele, writing for The Prairie Enthusiasts (theprairieenthusiasts.org), reminded people. “Natural resources belong to everyone and everyone in Wisconsin can vote on all of the questions, or on only those questions that pertain to their concerns,” Eisele wrote.

Questions pertain to mowing native vegetation under power lines; the impact of pesticides on grassland bird populations; the impact of outdoor cats on Wisconsin’s bird populations; whether the monarch butterfly should be designated as Wisconsin’s state butterfly to bring more awareness to its declining populations; phasing out lead ammunition in hunting with firearms by 2030 – and many more.

Voting takes place at in-person meetings in all of Wisconsin’s 72 counties on Monday, April 8 at 6 pm, or online from April 10-13. The in-person meeting in Door County will be held at Sturgeon Bay High School, 1230 Michigan St., in Sturgeon Bay Alumni Hall, with access through the main entrance.
