The Door County Master Gardeners will host Ron Amos, president of Evergreen Nursery, Sturgeon Bay who will present a free public program exploring cranberry production in Wisconsin and the major role Evergreen Nursery plays in that effort. The program will take place Feb. 24 at 7 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek in sturgeon Bay. Born in Madison, Ron worked for local Madison area garden centers throughout his teenage years and developed a keen interest in plants. Wisconsin produces 60 percent of our nation’s cranberry crop. The cranberry is the state’s official fruit, and is the state’s largest fruit crop in both size and economic value. Ron will explain not only how Evergreen Nursery fits into this world of the Wisconsin cranberry but also provide an overview of the state of cranberry production here in Wisconsin. It is a fascinating story and attendees will be amazed at what they hear.
