Ron Amos Named a Distinguished Agriculturist

The UW-River Falls College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) has named Ron Amos, owner and president of Evergreen Nursery Company in Sturgeon Bay, its 2021 Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturalist, and a sketch of his likeness will be added to the Agricultural Hall of Fame wall in UW-RF’s Agricultural Science Hall atrium.

Evergreen is one of the state’s oldest businesses, established in 1864 by George Pinney. It remained in the Pinney family until 2001, when Amos, who had risen from propagator to vice president, purchased the business. Today he oversees more than 30 employees who annually produce 3 million liners of evergreens, shrubs and birch, and up to 2 million liners of cranberries that are shipped across the U.S. and Canada. Evergreen Nursery is the largest wholesale nursery in the state.

For more than 50 years, CAFES has recognized those who have made “significant contributions to agriculture and natural-resource management in Wisconsin and beyond, as well as supported UW-RF and its programs,” said CAFES Dean Dale Gallenberg. “Ron’s place among these individuals is well deserved.”
