Sarosiek is Jacksonport’s New Chairman

The Town of Jacksonport finally has a full board again after choosing Jim Sarosiek as its Town Chairman July 7.

Jacksonport has been operating with mostly a two-person board since December, when former chairman George Bagnall stepped back due to illness. In April, the town elected Aaron LeClair to the chair, but he resigned due to personal reasons at the end of May.

It took a bit longer than expected to fill the seat because both of the town’s other board members, Jeanne Majeski and Randy Halstead, put their names in for the position. The chair is chosen in a vote by the town clerk and sitting board members. Door County Administrator Mike Serpe and Ron Schultz had also put their names in for the position.

Majeski, who had been the acting chair, pulled her name out of the hat Tuesday.

“I basically decided that we had some excellent candidates,” she said. “I felt it was important for the town to move forward after operating with an incomplete board for so long.”

Sarosiek was executive vice president and chief administrative officer of the Menasha Corporation in Neenah from 2005 – 2008 and had worked there since 1977. He recently retired and moved to Door County full time.

Sarosiek said he has served as president or chairman of many boards and committees, including a stint as Chairman of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce. Leadership, organization, and administrative abilities are his strengths, he said.

“I’m really flattered that the town has appointed me to this position,” he said. “This Jacksonport community is an excellent community, and I just hope I can help build on that base. I’m really excited about the opportunity.”

Majeski said she was happy with the choice.

“I know Jim will do a great job,” Majeski said.

The Schauer Park safe harbor proposal promises to be the toughest issue the board will face in coming months, and Sarosiek said communication will be key.

“My role is as a facilitator,” he said. “To make sure we listen and get the input from all citizens and all viewpoints and get the facts on the table.”
