Sevastopol Girls Third at Pioneer Invite

Sevastopol hosted the Pioneer Invitational cross-country meet Thursday at the Cherry Hills Golf Course.

In the girls race, in which six teams competed, Sevastopol (68) placed third, with Freedom (23) and Two Rivers (37) taking the top-two places.

Sturgeon Bay (110) came in fourth, with Manitowoc Lutheran (125) in fifth. Gibraltar, which had only four girls, did not score in the team standings.

Two Rivers senior Mikaela Helling recorded the top individual finish by completing the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 36.7 seconds.

The Pioneers had their five runners who counted toward the team total all finish in the top 20. They included junior Bea Dramm (eighth in 21.46.9), sophomore Naomi Rikkola (11th in 21:59.9), junior Jolene Luedtke (16th in 22:52.6), junior Katie Spude (17th in 22:56.1) and junior Libby Ash (19th in 23:20.2).

Other top-20 individual finishes from Door County schools included Gibraltar senior Betsy Lecy (13th in 22:26.9) and Sturgeon Bay junior Julia Kurek (18th in 23:10.6).

In the boys race, Two Rivers sophomore Eli Gallager clocked the top time of 17:01.9.

Gibraltar senior Logan Mittermann placed eighth in 18:17.8, and Sevastopol sophomore Jairus Dadam was 18th in 20:07.3.

The top-three teams in the boys standings included Two Rivers (31), Manitowoc Lutheran (44) and Freedom (45).
