Sevastopol School District to Conduct Developmental Screening

The Sevastopol School District will be conducting a district-wide developmental screening April 2, 8 am – 4 pm, in the multi-purpose room at the school, l4550 Hwy 57 in Sturgeon Bay.

The screening is being conducted with other Child Find activities: a continual process of public-awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify and refer all children ages three to 21 and their families who are in need of an Early Intervention Program (Part C) or Early Childhood Special Education (Part B) services as outlined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This requirement applies to district children who are not enrolled in school and to children who are enrolled in a religious, elementary private school.

The screening process encompasses a formalized, optional, face-to-face screening with each child. This collaborative effort with local professionals involves an opportunity for children to present their thinking, language and motor skills.

The screening’s objectives are to detect conditions interfering with a child’s growth, learning and development and to seek solutions; to increase parents’ awareness of physical health, development and learning-readiness connections; to improve access to and encourage use of regular preventive health services; to link families to a variety of community programs and services; and to have children enter school ready to learn
