The Door County Sheriff’s Department is warning of a scam that was recently pulled on a Northern Door resident. The man who was scammed of $300 is a church trustee who received an email he believed to have come from his clergyman, who is currently out of the country. The email asked the trustee to buy three $100 iTunes cards for someone in the hospital with cancer. The victim purchased the cards and responded to the email with the card information, but he became suspicious when he was asked to make the person in the hospital really happy with three more $100 cards. The Door County Sheriff’s Dept. reminds everyone to be suspicious of anyone asking you to purchase gift cards and give them the numbers.
