Small Sailboat Capsizes in Ellison Bay

On June 19, a small sailboat capsized north of Door Bluff County Park, putting a man in the water. Fast action by Captain Paul Goodman of Mariner Fishing Charter secured the man until the Coast Guard patrol boat from Washington Island arrived on the scene and pulled the man to safety. They transported him to a waiting ambulance in Gills Rock at the Shoreline dock where he was checked over and released. With the way the wind was blowing him away from shore toward the Upper Peninsula and colder water temperatures this could have been a tragedy if the man was not found quickly.
