Softball Pioneers Down Eagles in Eight Innings

Sevastopol’s softball team jumped out to a seven-run lead Tuesday when Southern Door was able to tie the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh and send the first game of a doubleheader the Eagles hosted to an extra inning.

The Pioneers regained the lead in the top of the eighth – which featured an RBI single by Jolene Luedtke and a three-run homer by Addison Schauske – and defeated Southern Door, 11-7.

Schauske also pitched the first five innings for Sevastopol, allowing four hits with two earned runs while striking out four. Libby Ash pitched the final three innings for the Pioneers.

Chloe Lustila recorded the pitching loss in relief for the Eagles.

With no lights at the softball field at Southern Door, the second game was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sevastopol was up to bat with two outs and the Eagles led, 10-4.
