Southern Door Auditorium Hosts Door County Idol

Whether a fan of competitions or not, Door County Idol is a great reward for youths willing to put themselves “out there” to share their talent for singing and performing. The “contest” part of the show is incidental and second to the experience of working with community musicians and mentors.

A field of 30 youths auditioned for the show, and the final six contestants will vie for the title of the Door County Idol 2013. The singing competition is set for Jan. 5 at the Southern Door Auditorium.

The participants include Alix Boettcher, Bjorn Kettering, Dominique Bowers, Katie Glabe, Genevieve Pelrine and Luke Spude.

The emcee for this year’s contest is Cory Vandertie. Vandertie emceed last years’ show and returns to the stage he spent many years on as a director for Southern Door Schools plays. Ben Larsen on guitar and Janet Anderson on piano will accompany the young musicians. Mentors include Dorothy Scott, Jess Holland, Katie Dahl, Alan Kopischke and Andria Nicopolous-Weliky.

Ministry Door County Medical Center is the sponsor, and inspired the theme for the show, “Community is Everybody, Supporting Everything Healthy.”

Two group songs are also planned for this year, one being “We Are the World.” Community mentors, friends and family will join in the group song.

Tickets are on sale for $15 and can be purchased online at http://www.SouthernDoorAuditorium.org.
