Sturgeon Bay High School Art Club Showcased in b2 Gallery

1st place: “Watergate in Reno,” pen and ink, by Alex Van Horn.

The Sturgeon Bay High School Art Club will unveil its annual Student’s Choice Exhibition on Wednesday, May 7 at the Fairfield Art Center, located in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay at the corner of Michigan and Third. The exhibition, titled “Interactive Park,” will open to the public with a free reception at 6:30 – 8 pm.

At the reception, guests will enjoy mingling with the student artists and their families as they view the work, participate in fun, interactive art booths and listen to live music from The Magnanimous Tree-Oh, a student band whose members also belong to the SBHS Art Club. The month-long show marks the first time the club has displayed its annual Student’s Choice exhibition at the Fairfield.

2nd place: “Oops,” digital photo, by Collin Braschnewitz.

“Having the ability to showcase at the Fairfield is a terrific way to get student work out into the community and show what we can do,” said Brittany Hunt, one of the art club’s senior chairs.

All Sturgeon Bay High School students, regardless of whether they are current art students or not, are welcome to submit artwork for consideration in the art club’s annual Student’s Choice Exhibition. The club makes the final selection of pieces to be included in the show.

3rd place: “Tea and Flowers,” watercolor collage with tea bags, by Brittany Hunt.

“The Art Club students pride themselves on making this show completely student choice,” said art instructor Nicole Herbst. “The club also votes on the top pieces that they feel have earned honorable mention.”

Four students took top honors this year. In first place was Alex Van Horn with a pen-and-ink drawing titled “Watergate in Reno.” Taking second place was Collin Braschnewitz’s “Oops,” a digital photo of a young boy. In third was Brittany Hunt’s “Tea and Flowers,” a creative watercolor collage incorporating tea bags, and in fourth was Hans Nelson’s marker drawing of a space-ship operator, titled “Blast Off.”

4th place: “Blast Off,” marker, by Hans Nelson.

“Interactive Park” will run throughout the month of May, closing its doors on Friday, May 30.

The Fairfield Art center is open free to the public from 10 am – 5 pm Wednesday through Saturday until May 15, after which it will resume its summer hours of 10 am – 5 pm Monday through Saturday.
