Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW) recognized 36 of Wisconsin’s public power utilities for their outstanding safety achievements in 2018. Of those, Sturgeon Bay Utilities was one of the community-owned utilities that earned a Gold Category award in recognition of its commitment to a strong safety culture.
“It is easy to use incidents and injuries to measure safety; however, those metrics focus on lagging indicators,” said Mike Czuprynko, manager of safety services at MEUW. “The MEUW Awards are designed to highlight the proactive steps our member utilities are taking.”
MEUW developed an application process to evaluate actions that utilities take to foster a culture that promotes workplace safety, and they receive a score based on their achievements in the prior year. The awards were presented during MEUW’s annual conference May 17.
