Sturgeon Bay’s Third District Alderman Resigns

City of Sturgeon Bay Third District Alderman Edward Ireland gave notice on June 9 of his intended resignation from the City Council. In his letter to Mayor Thad Birmingham, Ireland said health is the reason for his resignation and asked for a replacement as soon as possible. Ireland was first elected to represent the Third District in 2013 and was reelected in 2015, serving most recently on the Community Protection & Services Committee and Finance/Purchasing & Building Committee. “Mr. Ireland has faithfully served the city and residents of the Third District. Ed brought to the Council table a neighborly, well thought, and pragmatic approach to governance,” said Birmingham. The remainder of Ireland’s term, which expires in April 2017, will be filled as soon as possible. To be nominated to fill the vacancy, you must be a legal citizen of the United States, be at least 18 years of age, and have lived in the Third District for 28 days at the time of nomination. If you are interested in serving, send a brief letter of interest no later than Friday, June 24, 2016, to: Stephanie Reinhart, City Clerk; City of Sturgeon Bay; 421 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay, Wis. 54235.
