Take a Walk to Memorial Pole

Join Peninsula State Park naturalist Kathleen Harris on a Winter Walk to the Memorial Pole on Feb. 15, from 10 – 11 am. Meet at the golf course parking lot, near the clubhouse. Walk, ski or snowshoe (provide your own gear) a ¼-mile or less to the Memorial Pole, first erected in 1927 by the Ephraim Men’s Club. Visit the gravesite of Potawatomi Chief Simon Onanguisse Kahquados, too.

The Memorial Pole, refurbished over the years, is an excellent example of early twentieth century folk art. Each band depicts history of the Potawatomi Nation as interpreted by the dominant Anglo culture of the day. See the pole, pay honor to Kahquados, and gain an appreciation of Door County’s heritage.

The program is free, but a state park vehicle sticker is required. For more information call 920.868.3258.
