TAP Now Scheduling Student Matinees for ‘The Gin Game’

Third Avenue Playhouse in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay is scheduling student matinees for the Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Gin Game.

Schools, individual classrooms, homeschool students, and parents may schedule student matinees for Thursdays and Fridays through Oct. 14. D.L. Coburn’s The Gin Game runs two hours and has a 10-minute intermission. Audience members may ask questions during the director-led talkback after the show. A preshow classroom visit is included and may be scheduled for the week leading up to the performance. Alternate dates and times may be requested for both the show and classroom visit.

The Gin Game is appropriate for high school grade levels and above and connects with curriculum in language arts, psychology, economics, family and consumer science, and theater. Humor and psychological warfare crackle over a card game between two quick-witted residents of an assisted living facility in this Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The residents, Fonsia Dorsey and Weller Martin, bond over dislike of their seedy nursing home and their enjoyment playing gin rummy with one another. But as Fonsia wins the games again and again, Weller is forced to choose between friendship and competition in this uproariously funny and poignant play.

Tickets for student matinees are discounted to $8. For every 15 students, a complimentary teacher or chaperone ticket is available. Call 920.743.1760 to schedule a student matinee. For more information visit thirdavenueplayhouse.com.
