Congratulations to Team Alexander’s on winning the 2015 Hilander Cup in the Village of Sister Bay’s Annual Broomball Tournament. On Feb. 22, six teams braved 30 mph winds and temperatures near 0 to compete in the games. The roster of players show that the broomballers come from all over the peninsula, with some driving from as far away as Green Bay to play in the weekly Wednesday night competition and annual tournament.
Team Alexander’s played Team Cornerstone Pub for the Championship Hilander Cup. The competition was tense, with a 2-2 tie being finally broken in a shootout. Alexander’s Team Captain and goalie, Patrick Foy said that “the best moment was definitely the shootout.”
The play was intense for both teams, Foy said, “going from 2-0 to tie in the second half is what pushed us into overtime play. With no score in overtime, five players went to the shootout.”
When asked about what the best thing about broomball was, Foy said “being with all of those people that enjoy broomball, and the crowd that comes to watch and support us. It is so Door County. You can’t find that anywhere else.”
Players and spectators enjoyed Coach Joe Balderota’s brats, burgers and beer, compliments of this season’s sponsors – JJ’s La Puerta, Alexander’s, Cornerstone Pub, Horseshoe Bay Farms Golf Club, Wild Tomato, Door County Brewing Co. and Husby’s.

The League would like to offer a long deserved “Thank You” to long time Door County resident and organizer, Brian Fitzgerald of the Peninsula Pacers. Brian stepped down in 2015 from organizing the league after many years of service. Thank you for getting it going Brian, and for passing the torch to the next generation.
