“The Price of Sand” Film Screening

Greens and Grains will host a screening of the documentary The Price of Sand on Feb. 5 at 7 pm. The Price of Sand is a documentary about the sand mining boom in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Due to a rapid increase in demand, pure silica sand has become a valuable commodity, and mines are opening here at a rapid rate.

The silica used in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has other uses including glass manufacturing and toothpaste. A few established mines have been in operation here for decades. But now, new companies have arrived, and land with accessible silica deposits is selling for high prices.

The GNG Cafe offers a natural and organic dinner special each evening before the Film Society screening. Enjoy a soup specialty, salad, a fresh baked roll and a cup of tea for $7.50, available from 6 pm on. The Film Society screenings take place at 7 pm and there is no charge to attend but seating is limited to 28 people. Dinner and film reservations are requested. RSVP by calling 920.868.9999 or by email to [email protected].
