Third Avenue Playhouse Features “Shirley Valentine”

Third Avenue Playhouse will present Shirley Valentine Nov. 4 – 6 and 11 – 13. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 pm with Sunday matinees at 2 pm.

For Shirley Bradshaw, maiden name Valentine, the years have gone by far too quickly and she is now mired in an “unused life.” Unhappy in her marriage, taken advantage of by her children and ignored by pretty much everyone, she talks to the kitchen wall, wondering, at 42, what happened to the girl she used to be, what happened to Shirley Valentine? As it happens, she may have an opportunity to find out – her friend Jane, a divorced, self-proclaimed feminist, has offered Shirley a holiday in Greece. And when Shirley gets to Greece, she talks to a rock on the seashore, relating her adventures, her doubts, and her past in a series of reflections that are by turns hilarious, heartbreaking, poignant, and ultimately triumphant.

Arthur Hopper directs this work of acclaimed English playwright Willy Russell. Amy Ensign is the delightful Shirley.
