This Weekend in Door County

There’s no shortage of happenings in Door County this Saturday, June 15. Here’s a preview!

Peninsula Century Spring Classic

Avid and casual cyclists alike will enjoy this scenic ride, beginning in Baileys Harbor, which offers 25-, 50-, 62- and 100-mile (“century”) courses with aid stations along the way. Watch for riders on roads throughout the peninsula, and then celebrating with a post-ride meal back in Baileys Harbor. Riders can still register on-site Friday, June 14, 5-8 pm, at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall; and before the ride, 6:30-9 am, at the same location.

Door County Beer Festival

One of Baileys Harbor’s largest events is the annual Door County Beer Festival. This year it will welcome 45 breweries offering more than 150 craft beers, a handful of area chefs to serve delicious eats, and live music by Open Tab and Cajun Strangers to keep the energy high and the crowd groovin’. Tickets will be available at the door if they don’t sell out first – which happened in 2018. Buy tickets in advance at doorcountybeerfestival.com.

The 55th Annual Fyr Bal

The time has come to burn the proverbial winter witch! The traditional Scandinavian celebration of Fyr Bal (pronounced FEER-ball) in Ephraim encompasses the entire community and features food, music, dancing, a pet parade and the ceremonial bonfire lighting that symbolizes the end of winter. Fyr Bal closes with fireworks over Eagle Harbor. Visit ephraim-doorcounty.com to see a full schedule of events for the whole family throughout the day.

Steel Bridge Songfest

This year, the Songfest will take place at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) on June 14 and 15, 7:30 pm. For five days prior to the Songfest performances, talented writers from around the country will participate in an immersive songwriting experience called the Construction Zone, hosted by Sturgeon Bay’s Holiday Music Motel. Thirty-four artists are set to perform in the two shows. From Lillie Lemon’s indie electro-pop to Sam Lyons’ blend of pop, R&B and country, the sounds and styles of this year’s artists are diverse and innovative.
