Toaster Oven Turned UV Mask Decontaminator

Door County will soon have a toaster oven that’s been tricked out with ultraviolet (UV) lights that can decontaminate up to 50 N95 masks in one shot. The equipment will be available for all emergency-services and public-health personnel across the county.

“Fire departments can drive here to use it,” said Dan Kane, Door County Emergency Management director. “It allows us to extend N95s that are in short supply.” The masks can be decontaminated in the oven up to a dozen times before they must be discarded.
