Town Meeting April 13

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Spring Election will be held on Tuesday, April 6 from 7 am – 8 pm at the Town Hall on Old Stage Lane.

• The Annual Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at the Town Hall at 7 pm. Janet has posted the State Statutes regarding the Powers of a Town Meeting on the Town Web Site. Copies are also available at the Town Hall. You are encouraged to attend.

• Peter Sauer, Jim Nelson, Jill Karkau, Supervisor Anne Miller and Chairperson Nancy Goss of the Liberty Grove Plan Commission attended a meeting of the Door County Unit of the Wisconsin Towns Association in the Town of Sturgeon Bay on March 25. Thomas Harnish, Education Director of the Wisconsin Towns Association, gave a presentation on Building and Structure Controls and Land Use Controls for Towns and Villages. Also attending was Administrator Kalms, Supervisor Forkert and Chairman Lowry. Anne Miller is the current presiding officer for the Door County Unit.

• Administrator Kalms has filed a request with the state for pedestrian crosswalks to be marked on the highway in Ellison Bay.

• The town crew members are busy doing the annual spring cleanup on town roads and properties.

• The Postal Department has notified the town that they are looking into the possibility of providing a trailer as a temporary Post Office during the remodeling of the Ellison Bay facility. The town has offered a location at the North Fire Station and has provided the Postal Department with the associated costs.

• The IT Committee has extended an invitation to Internet service providers to participate in a meeting on April 29 at the Town Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to learn what plans the various providers have to extend broadband Internet service in the town. The meeting will begin at 7 pm and is open to the public.

• A second meeting to discuss the possibility of a Fire District was held on Monday, March 29 at the Town Hall. Chief Hecht gave a presentation on the current status of mutual aid and the history of co-operation between the various Northern Door fire departments. Fire chiefs or assistant chiefs also spoke to the issue of establishing a Fire District. It was decided to have the various governing boards discuss how more assistance and support can be given to the respective departments. A fall meeting will be held to share ideas.
