Two Seminars Offered at Bjorklunden

From Oct.17 – Oct. 22 Lawrence University’s Björklunden in Baileys Harbor is offering two seminars: “Emily & Walt” and “The Fight to Save the Cranes of India, Pakistan & Russia: An Insider’s Adventure.”

In “Emily & Walt,” Henry C. Timm will explore the historic period in which American poets Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman lived. He will also study their lives, their impact on modern poetry, and the power they manifest to teach, nurture, and move poets and readers alike.

Timm is a writer, playwright, producer, director, and teacher. Since coming to Door County he has taught seminars in literature, the arts, and writing at Björklunden, The Clearing, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and Third Avenue Playhouse.

“The Fight to Save the Cranes of India, Pakistan & Russia” will provide an insider’s adventure as Dr. Steve Landfried shares his experiences working closely with International Crane Foundation co-founders Dr. George Archibald and Dr. Sauey during their early years attempting to conserve the world’s 15 species of cranes. Participants will also learn about his correspondence with Indira Gandhi, encounters with Greg Mortenson (Three Cups of Tea), and working associations with renowned scientists.

Dr. Landfried is internationally known as an innovative educator, talented photographer, and advocate for satellite tracking of migratory species. His articles and photographs have appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world.
