Village of Egg Harbor Earns Stewardship Award

During a virtual presentation last week, the Village of Egg Harbor received the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s Stewardship Award for its outstanding contributions to the state’s hospitality and travel industry.

The village was recognized for thinking globally and acting locally after a dedicated, eco-focused group came together in 2017 to spread more sustainable practices throughout the community. Recognized as a Green Tier Legacy Community, the Village of Egg Harbor created a task force to turn the conversation into action.

New programs included implementing a free bike-share system, creating a public seed library, using solar energy in the village and adding new recycling containers and electric-car charging stations. Egg Harbor also collaborated with other communities to share these practices.

Sponsored by the Governor’s Council on Tourism, the Governor’s Tourism Awards recognize individuals, organizations and businesses for their excellence, dedication and impact on Wisconsin’s travel and hospitality industry. Egg Harbor’s award was one of five presented during a virtual presentation after the 2019 Wisconsin Governor’s Conference on Tourism was canceled because of COVID-19.

“I wish we could have been together in person to celebrate the tourism leaders who helped make 2019 Wisconsin’s tourism economy’s best year on record,” said Secretary-designee Sara Meaney. “Wisconsin is lucky to have a top-notch group of industry professionals promoting our industry.”
