Vivacious Violins on Exhibit at The Link

Vivacious Violin by Kathy Glasnap.

The Door County String Academy (DCSA), under the direction of Lori Meyer, provides string instruction to students in grades 3 – 12 during the school calendar year. On Sunday, May 18, DCSA will host a fundraiser concert and silent auction at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor and the public is invited to attend.

In support of the DCSA mission to offer “positive and professional music instruction,” six of the peninsula’s renowned artists have painted violins in a variety of themes which will be up for auction at the event. From bumblebees to bunnies, Vivacious Violins artists Ernest Beutel, Kathy Glasnap, Giz Herbst, Jeanne Kuhns, Margaret Lockwood, and Tim Nyberg have created works of art utilizing a violin’s surface as their canvas. All of the violins are on display in the DCA Link Gallery through May 17.

Tickets for the DCSA May 18 fundraiser are $25 and reservations can be made by calling program director Lori Meyer at 920.421.0753. For information on Door County String Academy classes contact Meyer by phone, via email at [email protected] or visit http://www.dcstringacademy.com. Financial assistance is available to qualifying families and provides for reduced class fees and/or instrument rental fees.

The Link Gallery at the Door Community Auditorium is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10 am – 3 pm; weekend show days, 11 am – 3 pm; and during all DCA performances and special events.
