Walk to Mary Pilgrimage May 5

Hundreds are expected to make the 21-mile Walk to Mary Pilgrimage to Champion Shrine on May 5 for the opening weekend of Marian Month. They’ll journey together to The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, where the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared in 1859 to Adele Brise, a young Belgian immigrant who became the first steward of the Blessed Mother’s message and mission. The walk begins at the Shrine of St. Joseph at Old St. Joseph Church at St. Norbert College in De Pere. Shorter routes, including a two-mile walking route for families and children, are available to those who wish to participate. Registration for the day-long event closes May 4 at walktomary.com.

On May 6 there will also be a full outdoor Marian procession of the season at Champion Shrine and direct the placing of a crown of flowers and herbs on a statue of Mary at the Shrine as part of its traditional May crowning ceremony. All are welcome to attend. The Champion Shrine is located at 4047 Chapel Drive in Champion, centrally located between Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay and Algoma.
