Washington Island School Receives $41,010 Grant

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) awarded the Washington Island School District a Wisconsin Fast Forward Teacher Training and Development Grant for $41,010.

The grant will be used to train up to three teachers in the areas of general science, chemistry, physical science, biology, STEM, early childhood-kindergarten, and guidance and counseling education.

“We could not be more thrilled about receiving this particular grant. It is a tool that will enable staff members who are participating in the program to have college/university tuition paid for during the grant period. These staff will be able to complete their graduate work in their multiple certification areas, which ultimately assists the school district in not only meeting the Wisconsin DPI requirements of highly qualified teacher training, but most importantly, enables the district to provide our students with the best educational experiences possible,” said Principal Michelle Kanipes.

In total, DWD presented $3,553,622.15 to 32 school districts to license more than 370 teachers in various academic areas.
