Weather Forecasting Seminar Offered for Boaters

The Door County Sail & Power Squadron is offering a free, two-hour, On-board Weather Forecasting seminar for boaters from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on Monday, April 12, at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Sturgeon Bay.

The course is perfect for anyone who wishes to better understand weather systems, clouds, and the use of their senses, wind direction, temperature, and pressure to predict emerging weather fronts. Student materials can be reviewed and ordered at the class if desired.

The seminar will be taught by Past Rear Commander Alan Wentworth, SN, of Green Bay. Wentworth, a long-time boater received his lifetime United States Power Squadron membership in 2003. He has taught a number of classes for the squadron, most recently an extended, comprehensive 10-week weather course to squadron members.

This program is a qualifying seminar in the USPS University Certification program. The Squadron Education Department offers other classes for the general public throughout the spring and summer. Using GPS will be given in May and Paddle Smart in June, with three additional seminars planned for the second half of the year.
