What would you do on your day off in Door County?

I would buy tickets to the Peninsula Players, Theatre in a Garden. Then, I would plan a picnic dinner with a fresh loaf of bread from the Town Hall Bakery in Jacksonport, a 10-year cheddar, Door County Mustard with pretzels and fresh fruit from the Sturgeon Bay farmer’s market…with Door County cherries, of course.

I would gather a group of friends or my significant other and head down the property an hour before the show starts (maybe more, depending on how long you like to linger over a picnic) and buy a bottle of wine to go with the meal. I prefer a crisp white on those warm summer nights.

Whether it’s before the show, during intermission or afterwards, don’t forget to take a swing on the date bench. It’s best if you can nab it for the sunset.

Most evenings, the show starts at 8 pm and I would find my seat a little early, to fight the mad rush in the last couple of minutes.

During intermission, I would sip on a White Russian and sit around the fire. If it’s a particularly chilly evening, I might go with coffee or hot chocolate from the Canteen.

After the show, feeling giddy and enchanted by the whole experience, I’d wander into Egg Harbor and grab some gelato.
