Winter Programming Begins at DCA

Door Community Auditorium (DCA) kicks off its popular winter event series on January 17 and 18 with the Door County premiere of the acclaimed film Wild Horse, Wild Ride and a lecture about the biology behind bacterial colonization.

On Jan. 17 at 7 pm, DCA will present the premiere of Wild Horse, Wild Ride. This 2011 film documents the annual Extreme Mustang Makeover, a contest that challenges horse trainers to tame wild mustangs. Poignant and unforgettable, Wild Horse, Wild Ride features Door County’s own Jesus “Chewy” Jauregui, who will be on-hand to do some trick roping, talk about the film and sign DVDs after the screening.

The screening of Wild Horse, Wild Ride is free to the public. Freewill donations are encouraged.

Dr. David Hunnicutt

On Jan. 18 at 9 am, the first Distinguished Lecture Series of the season welcomes Dr. David Hunnicutt with his presentation, “Gracious Hosts-Bacterial Colonization of the Human Body.” In the lecture, Hunnicutt, associate professor of biology at St. Norbert College, will focus on recent studies describing the “human microbiome” and how such discoveries open up new ways of thinking about health, disease, and what it means to be human.

Hunnicutt’s lecture is free to the public. Refreshments from Base Camp Coffee Shop will be available for purchase.

Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located on Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday through Friday, 12 – 5 pm. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at 920.868.2728, or online at dcauditorium.org.
