Women With Spirit

Sue Demel

On Nov. 11, The Community’s Garden and the Art of Music National Tours will be collaborating on an event called “Women With Spirit: An Evening of Outstanding Music and Amazing Food.” This dinner concert, sponsored by Ministry Door County Medical Center, is for both men and women of all ages. The event will be held at The Lodge at Leathem Smith; dinner will begin at 6 pm and the concert will follow at 8 pm.

The evening will include a four-course dinner designed and prepared by four of the best women chefs in Door County: Susan Guthrie of The Bluefront Café and Veronica Ripp of Nightingale Supper Club, as well as Sharon Peterson and Sandra Smith of Gourmet-A-Go-Go. The concert will feature the music of Karen Savoca, Sue Demel and Dorothy Scott.

Playing conga and hand percussion, Savoca infuses music with her love of soul, R&B, and world rhythms. Together she and innovative guitarist Pete Heitzman have been described as a self-contained mini-band with “the fearlessness of a high-wire act working without a net.”

Whether it’s scatting, chanting, collaborating, or teaching, Demel explodes the pre-conceived notions of harmony singing. As a founding and current member of folk trio Sons of the Never Wrong, she tours nationally, performing original, acoustic music.

Scott has flowed effortlessly between genres achieving popularity in pop, folk, blues and alternative. She has shared the stage with Carole King, Jackson Browne, Jeff Buckley, The Frames and more.

Tickets are $40 for the dinner and concert. All proceeds will support the Community’s Garden in Door County. For more information or to purchase tickets call 920.493.5979. Tickets are also available at Ministry Door County Medical Center’s cashier’s window located just inside the 16th Place entrance.
