Wood Carving Artist to Demonstrate

Door County Interiors and Design in Egg Harbor is celebrating the annual Pumpkin Patch Festival with a unique artistic event. On Saturday October 11, from 10 am – 6 pm, renowned wood carver Jerry Waite will offer demonstrations of his skill at the design center throughout the day.

The Wisconsin native and Door County resident is celebrated for his highly detailed carvings of songbirds, waterfowl, Great Lakes schooners, and other sailing vessels. All Waite’s work is done in Door County basswood or white cedar.

On October 11, Waite turns his talent to the carving of Scandinavian Nisse figures. According to traditional mythology, the Nisse were tiny, good-natured people believed to control the forces of nature and thus the fortunes of farmers. In order to assure a year of health and happiness, families were required to leave a bowl of rice pudding and a warm mug of spiced wine for their Nisse every Christmas Eve.

Ron and Carol Trimberger, owners of Door County Interiors and Design invite you to join them for this exciting opportunity to watch a gifted artist at work and perhaps find a Nisse for good fortune in your own home. In keeping with Scandinavian tradition, rice pudding and warm, spiced wine will be served all day.

Door County Interiors and Design is located at 7266 Highway 42, two miles south of downtown Egg Harbor. For more information call 920.868.9008 or email [email protected].
