Workshop Offered for Nonprofit Leaders

The Door County Community Foundation, the Raibrook Foundation, and United Way of Door County present the latest in their nonprofit education series: Board Governance and Special Events. This session is open to the board members, professional staff, and volunteers of local nonprofit organizations. “Board Governance & Special Events” is set for Oct. 23, 8 – 11:45 am, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Frank Maxwell, a member of the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors and an experienced volunteer, will speak on the best practices in board governance. Topics include: board basics, board member recruitment and retention, the role of the board, expectations of board members, and how to run an effective meeting.

Amy Kohnle, executive director of the United Way of Door County, will lead a roundtable discussion on special events. Topics include: the pros and cons of special events, how they fit into year-round public relations and the fundraising plans, and how to plan your next special event.
