Write On Poetry and Prose Awards Open for Entries

The Norbert Blei Award in Poetry and the new Washington Island Literary Festival Award in Flash Prose are now accepting entries. Poetry and works of fiction or nonfiction of 750 words or less are accepted through July 20, 2018. The theme for this year is water. Judging this year’s awards is writer Albert DeGenova.

Administered by Write On, both awards include a cash prize of $150 and complimentary registration to the Washington Island Literary Festival. Winners present their work during the festival. Writers may submit up to three poems or one short prose piece per entry and may submit as many entries as they would like. There is a $10 fee per entry.

The contest is open to beginning and established writers who are at least 18 years of age and residents of Wisconsin. Different works must be submitted separately. Your name should not appear on the piece and a biographical statement must accompany your entry.

The theme of this year’s Washington Island Literary Festival is “Words on Water.” Authors for this year’s festival include nonfiction writers Jeff Goodell and Douglas Wood, novelists Bonnie Jo Campbell, Kirk Landers, and Jean Pendizwol, and poet Marion Boyer, with additional presentations by writers Lane Hall and Richard Purinton. The festival is Sept. 14-16, with optional programming on Sept. 13. For full schedule and registration information visit washingtonislandliteraryfestival.org.
