Altrusa Helps Girls Get Back to School with Annual Fair

With generous assistance from a grant of $2,000 from the Women’s Fund, new backpacks were chosen and filled with school supplies at Altrusa’s Back-to-School Fair, held at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA. More than 250 local girls from all over Door County participated in the fair. Volunteer guides escorted the girls around the gym as they filled their backpacks with school supplies, school spirit shirts, socks, underwear, toiletries, bike helmets and certificates for new gym shoes at Dunham’s. Altrusa International of Door County, a local branch of a women’s community service organization, also pays school registration fees. The motto of the Women’s Fund – “When She Thrives, We All Prosper” – pairs well with the Door County club’s mission statement – “Advancing Literacy Through Opportunities.”
