A weekend of fun and excitement awaits over Memorial Day Weekend at Maifest, taking place May 24 and 25 in Jacksonport. This will be the 42nd annual Maifest celebration to kick off the summer season. Activities take place at the beautiful Lakeside Park, intersection of County V and Highway 57. The Jacksonport Advancement Corporation is partnering with the Women’s Club, fire department, several departments from Sevastopol School, and the 4H, to provide this fun-filled, family friendly weekend.

There is something for all ages. Food booths offering kolaches, brats and roasted corn; an art fair featuring one-of-a-kind pieces in all media; and a silent auction will all start at 9 am on Saturday.

The parade will begin at 10:30 am. After the parade, the Maifest Midway, the special children’s area, will have inflatables, games, pony rides, and music with the Sevastopol Music Art and Theater Guild. There will also be a Maypole dance and the fire department will have its amphibious boat on display.

A highlight of Saturday will be the Memorial Day presentation of the flag by V.F.W. Post 3088 at noon followed by the announcement of the scholarship winners. The proceeds of Maifest fund the scholarship awards and other Sevastopol School and community projects.

Helicopter rides will start at 11:30 am and Jerry Voelker & His Jolly Gents will provide music in the afternoon.

Sunday will start at 9 am with a 10K and 2-mile fun run coordinated by the Sevastopol Booster Club. The event is part of the Run the Door Race Circuit. There will continue to be lots of good food, the art fair and silent auction (which will close at 1 pm), and helicopter rides.

The Maifest Midway will open at 11:30 am and The Modern Day Drifters will provide music in the park. Sunday features a unique event – the Frontier Farmers Horse Pull with teams from around the Midwest. This event is held in the ballpark on County V and starts at noon with the National Anthem, a drill team performance and a trick roping exhibition.
