Baileys Harbor core meeting re-scheduled for Nov. 30

• The Town of Baileys Harbor canceled a joint meeting of its town board and plan commission scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 23. The meeting to make a final decision on the expansion of the core commercial district and parameters for an image corridor along Highway 57 south of the town has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 7 pm at the town hall.

• The Wisconsin State Natural Resources Board voted unanimously to approve the purchase of 860 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline in Ellison Bay by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR will purchase the 4.8-acre parcel on Rowleys Bay from the Rowleys Bay Resort for $1.05 million. The property includes a 16-slip marina and three cabins. Rowleys Bay is one of the peninsula’s finest waters for fishing, kayaking, and bird watching and abuts the Mink River Estuary.

• The Town of Baileys Harbor Bicycle Plan Steering Committee finalized a bike plan to send to the town board for approval in December.

• The Village of Ephraim discussed efforts to improve pedestrian paths and safety in the village at its Nov. 8 meeting. Village Clerk/ Administrator Charity Buhr said she has had several communications with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation but is still awaiting concrete suggestions on how the village can get more crosswalks and an approved walking path. The village does not have sidewalks now. Ephraim is on the state’s calendar for highway re-surfacing as early as 2012.The board will discuss the issue further at its December meeting.

• Door County was featured in the travel show On the Road with Jason Davis on KSTP in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota on Nov. 14. The episode featured several area businesses and attractions, including Good Eggs, Hands On Art Studio, Rock Island, and fisherman Ken Koyen. • The Egg Harbor Town Board approved the merger of two parcels at the Door Peninsula Winery property on Cty I in Carlsville. The merger allows the winery to build an addition to the winery, which is also home to Bistro 42 restaurant.
