Benches Return to Sturgeon Bay

Twenty-five embellished, adorned and enhanced benches have decorated the streets and businesses around Sturgeon Bay. This public street art project is the third Benches by the Bay program presented by the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center (SBVC) and Associated Bank. Benches by the Bay is the city’s three-dimensional art project that is showcased on the streets and public areas throughout Sturgeon Bay in the summer. Local and Midwest artists have the option to use a templated cedar bench made by John Rosenthal and Glen VanderVelden, or creating a bench of their own. All benches are sponsored by SBVC member businesses.

The benches are auctioned off at the Street Art Auction following Harvest Festival on Sept. 15, 5 pm in Martin Park. Proceeds from the auction benefit the artist and public art in Sturgeon Bay. If interested in buying a bench, but unable to attend the live auction, you may submit an absentee bid by calling 920.743.6246.

Visitors and residents are encouraged to sign the blue, graffiti bench outside of the SBVC office at 36 S. Third Ave, and to cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award at the SBVC.

A map of bench locations is available at the SBVC and Sturgeon Bay businesses. For more information call 920.743.6246 or visit SturgeonBay.net.
