Birch Creek Announces 35th Anniversary Season

Each year, approximately 200 students enroll in Birch Creek, a unique summer music school and concert venue. Over the span of eight weeks, they study and perform alongside some of the best musicians and educators in the country.

The 2010 Birch Creek season offers concerts in the following musical genres: Symphony (June 24 – July 3), Percussion and Steel Band (July 8 – 17), and Big Band Jazz (July 21 – August 14). There are also two special Starzs series concerts, featuring Birch Creek faculty members, throughout the summer.

The Symphony series features concerts presented by the full 80-member Birch Creek Symphony Orchestra. Birch Creek’s anniversary will be celebrated during the Saturday, June 26 concert. Light refreshments, anniversary cake, and a chance to visit with symphony faculty and students will follow the evening’s performance.

During the Percussion series, numerous ensembles perform a variety of styles, from calypso to jazz to original compositions. Concertgoers are invited to linger after the “Jazz in the Night” concert on July 14 when the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society will set up telescopes for viewings of the night sky.

During the month-long Big Band Jazz series, audiences will enjoy the Faculty Academy Band as they present works by Ellington, Basie, the Dorsey Brothers, Glenn Miller and more.

The Starz series begins “In a Different Light” on Monday, June 28, with performances by Symphony Faculty Ensembles in Juniper Hall. The soulful music of jazz singer Billie Holiday will be performed by Mardra Thomas in a second Starz concert on Sunday, August 8.

The Birch Creek campus is located three miles east of Egg Harbor on County Highway E. Ticket prices are $29 for adults, $10 for students, and $6 for children. For complete information on Birch Creek, or to reserve tickets, call 920.868.3763 or visit http://www.birchcreek.org.
