Book Recommendation: ‘Foundryside’ by Robert Jackson Bennett

Recommended by GRACE JOHNSON, Peninsula Pulse Assistant Editor and Bibliophile

After a several-month reading slump, I am back at it with my bread-and-butter fantasy reads – and getting back into this trilogy has been a blast. The best part is that all of the books are out now, so there’s no waiting for the next installment!

Sancia Grado is a thief whose unique abilities make her well suited to her profession. When a high-paying job goes sideways, she discovers that the thing she was hired to steal is an artifact of unimaginable power that could revolutionize the magical technology known as scriving. Now the Merchant Houses that control the magic are looking for Sancia and the item she stole, and she must team up with unlikely allies to stop those in power from obtaining it. If they do, they can rewrite the world to suit their needs.

This has definitely been a “one more chapter” type of book for me – it’s hard to put down. If you love heist fantasy, hard-magic systems, unlikely allies, Sapphic romance and a good time, I recommend you give this a read.
